Summer Internship Program

Meet the Interns

My name is Jon Elenkiwich. I’m 19 years old and have lived in Edina my entire life. I attended the Normandale French Immersion across from the church, followed by Valley View Middle School, and then to Edina High School. After graduating in 2008, I went to St. Louis University in Missouri. I am still currently a student there studying Biomedical Engineering. Apart from school, I fill a majority of my time with Crew. We row every morning for my school and race on the weekends. Back home in Minnesota I lived with my parents, Sue and Dave, and my 23 year old sister comes and visits on the weekends from St. Cloud. When my parents aren’t drawing up lists of chores for me to do, I try to keep up with some of my high school hobbies, such as pottery and tennis. My aspirations for this summer with Normandale are to keep everyone involved with the church over summer and even get some new faces to join the church community.

Hey everyone! My name is Aaron Schmoll and I'm thrilled to be one of the interns at Normandale this summer! I just completed my freshman year of college at the University of Minnesota. I'm majoring in Art with a Marketing minor. This summer, I'm looking forward to all of the amazing trips we'll be going on including the choir tour, Camp Wapo, Camp Noah, and sailing on Lake Superior! I can't wait to get to know those of you whom I haven't met, and know better those I have!

Don't be a stranger if you see me around!

Summer Mission & Outreach Intern/Alyssa Telander

The Normandale Church Foundation has graciously funded the pilot position of Summer Mission and Outreach Intern, which Alyssa Telander and Pastor Dale will be developing during the next three months. Alyssa will work primarily on fostering the new partnership between Normandale and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, using relationships she formed and experiences she had on her own and as a Youth Ministry Intern last summer. She will endeavor to involve our congregation more directly in this partnership, through summer programming and planning for the coming year. Among her goals are to expand language partner work in which Normandale members practice their Spanish while helping immigrants learn English, to help plan and run St. Paul’s Vacation Bible School and other summer youth programs, and to create new
avenues for mutual ministry. She will meet regularly with Pastors Patrick and Luisa Cabello Hansel of St. Paul’s (who, incidentally, are very excited by this project) as well as with Pastor Dale, members of Normandale’s Global Mission
Committee, and Youth Director Steve Hanson.

Alyssa will also work with the committee to develop ¡Mission Perú! in support of Huch’uy Runa (the holistic school for street children in Cusco) and the Lutheran Church in Peru (ILEP), especially to involve Normandale youth in mission here and abroad. She may have some involvement with other local ministries; Sub-Saharan African Youth and Family Services in Minnesota (SAYFSM) and Normandale Housing, should time and energy allow, but she will focus on St. Paul’s.

Alyssa has just returned from study and travel in Europe as part of her junior year at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. Pastor Dale’s simply delighted to be working with her and the community of St. Paul’s. Please join him in welcoming Alyssa back to Normandale for another summer!
